I’m A Pod Person :: The 9 Podcasts Every Mom Needs

Pod person // podcasts I love

You know that saying “it takes a village”? Well these days, it seems like our Mom Tribes have gotten pretty sparse. With people living farther away from their families and everyone having insanely busy schedules, it can be difficult to find the support that we all need sometimes. Plus if you’re anything like me, you’re pregaming for bed with a nap on the couch by 8:30, which doesn’t leave a ton of time for a night out. Ain’t no party like an exhausted, over-worked, under-showered mom party, am I right?

Luckily, I have found some AMAZING resources through podcasts. It’s a fabulous way to pass the time in my home away from home, AKA my car. Does anybody else feel like the driving NEVER stops?! Whether I need advice, a calm voice in my head, a place to laugh or cry (sometimes simultaneously), here are some of my favorite mom podcasts to check out. The women in these podcasts are smart, engaging, and they’re basically like my extra Mom Friends at this point.

Motherhood in Hollywood– The “Life of the Party” Friend

Every tribe needs to laugh and this is your girl. I found Heather Brooker on Instagram and kind of fell in love with her. She hosts a podcast called Motherhood in Hollywood and it’s awesome. Heather is a journalist, actress & blogger and her podcast is a little dose of joy each week. She covers topics like water safety and sleep questions, but also has some hilarious episodes with her husband and other actors. I love movies and television, so it’s really fun for me to hear from somebody who works in that world every day.

Janet Lansbury– The “Voice of Reason” Friend

Unruffled was a BIG find for me. Lansbury is parenting teacher who focuses on Respectful Parenting. I desperately want to raise a kid that feels totally safe and secure expressing how he feels as he gets older. His concerns are relatively small now, but they are big to him and they will only get bigger so when life starts to suck, I want him to know that he has a soft place to fall. But confession time: sometimes I have a short temper. It’s a struggle for me to not get overwhelmed when H is having a hard day behavior-wise, which makes the days harder for us both (I wrote a post about this over on my blog that you can read about here). I know it’s a weakness and I’m working on it all the time because when you know better, you do better right? I love reading articles online, but there’s something about listening to her each week that seems to really stick with me. When my kiddo is losing his mind because I gave him the water that he ASKED for (because yes, that actually happens), hearing her voice in my head helps me stay calm. She’s my zen in the midst of toddler tantrum chaos.

For Crying Out Loud– The “Matter of Fact, Sarcastic & Sassy” Friend

This is a new find for me and I’m OBSESSED. It’s hosted by Lynette Carolla (wife of Adam Carolla) and Stefanie Wilder-Taylor (author of Sippy Cups Are Not For Chardonnay) and these two sassy ladies are my new best friends. It’s super refreshing to hear them talk about the realities of being a wife and mom and how hard it can be sometimes. They don’t seem to be worried about saying “the right thing” and I love that. This podcast is totally irreverent and totally hilarious plus they record episodes twice a week so you get double the fun! Warning: it’s  not for little ears so save it for when you’re by yourself or during the late night kitchen cleaning we all end up doing. I’m convinced all the dirt comes out of hiding after 8:00 because there’s no way my kitchen has been that dirty all day and I just haven’t noticed (that’s what I’m telling myself anyway).

Here are a few others I have on my list to check out in 2018:

Working Mother Radio – The Working Mom Friend

Let’s be clear, we’re ALL working, full-time, whether or not we leave the home or claim a paycheck. I love hearing different perspectives, and this one is specifically geared towards moms who are also in the workplace, speaking to both life as a mom and career strategies.

and a few more:

Magic Lessons With Elizabeth Gilbert – The “Creative” Frien

Coffee + Crumbs – The “I’ll Grab The Wine” Friend

Just Add Sprinkles – The “I’m Here For You” Friend

Criminal – The “Obsessed with Dateline and Criminal Minds” Friend

Invisiblia – The “Should Have Been a Psych Major” Friend

Your tribe is important, people. Just like it’s important to surround yourself with awesome people who lift you up and encourage you, it’s important to surround yourself with tools, social media accounts, and yeah even podcasts that do the same thing. Plus, when your mom tribe is online, you don’t have to share your wine.
