Amazon vs. Target

Amazon vs. Target, man oh man, I really have a lot of feelings about these two champions of my heart.

Listen, before you get your nice girl panties in a bunch this is not a battle. If, God forbid, there was a battle and only one could remain, no! I’m sorry, I am not even going to talk that mess or think about it ever again, Amen.

This all started as a simple conversation between my husband and I: “what are you doing today?” “Oh, I don’t know I might grab a few things from Target.” Now, in a regular world, in a regular town, that might not seem like a stretch but see, we don’t have a target in our town (insert a pearl clinching gasp).

If you live in Santa Rosa Beach you have to go to either Destin or Panama City Beach to hunt the Target treasure your heart desires. So my husband thought he would suggest something, “why don’t you save yourself some time and just [Amazon] Prime whatever you need.” People of the internet, I have never laughed so hard in my life. It must be precious to live in a head space where Amazon and Target are interchangeable.

Comparing Amazon and Target is like suggesting you could have an ice cream sundae when you had your heart set on cheesecake. While they are both delicious, they are simply not the same. Sure both Amazon and Target sell clothes, house hold essentials, decor, clothing, and much more; but they are not the same.

Target is an experience not meant to be tainted with the internet or its cohorts. Target is a sacred place where I can stroll down every aisle (drinking coffee) looking for nothing and touching everything. Can I have my secret (textile oriented) affair with Nate Berkus on Amazon.com? Nope.

You see, Target makes me ambitious. You may set your intentions at yoga, but I set mine in Target. I plan all the ways I will redecorate every single room in my house with Opalhouse wallpaper, bedding, and area rugs (my actual love language) then usually talk myself into waiting until all of the items go on clearance. Oh, the deals I have found in those glorious clearance sections.

I know it sounds like I have turned my back on Amazon but let me assure you, I have not. I could never turn my back on a ride or die like Amazon Prime. It is there for me when I need it most. Late at night after a few glasses of wine and I realize I need a new doormat or the worlds largest package of paper towels, cue old faithful.

Maybe something (an area rug) I added to my cart weeks ago is now on sale, good ol’ Amazon Prime will tell me “something in your cart now has a lower price.” That is just dedication you can not find anywhere else.

But then the sun comes up and it is a new day, and there is probably new stuff in the dollar spot.
