The struggle is real: Eating healthy food all the time is NOT easy as a Mom.

(A transparent thought process into my life as a fitness professional + mom)

Moms, let’s get real. Staying fit and eating healthy is not easy. I can really attest to this. Just yesterday I found myself eating my kids leftover chicken tenders. My thoughts “What? Do I even bother logging my food today? Well…. that was a waste, I guess we will eat pizza tonight”.

Real talk. Let’s face it no matter where you are in life with your children, no matter their ages… healthy eating is not always the easiest thing. In fact, it is way easier said than done. Even if I choose the healthiest option, if I reach for my kid’s food, I may have just polluted my day. Our busy lives, whether we work full time, part time, or not at all, have us in this lifestyle that we are literally just doing our best trying to keep our children not fighting with each other and alive.

Dear moms of elementary age children and above, I get it… IT’S ALL HARD. Each age just brings a new grievance.

As I am typing this, I literally just handed my kid a valentine lollipop that she brought to me at 5:48am. WHAT? Here I am this fitness industry professional (and fitness nutrition coach) and I can’t even tell my kid “no” to a lollipop. Especially at 5am. (Her only other food prior was a cheese stick) My point? You just do what you can and do your best. She will get broccoli and sweet peas and turkey later. She will be okay. Maybe. (Please somebody get that valentine candy out of my house without tears. I need someone to come throw it away so I can blame it on you, not me…)

Real: We will all be okay as long as we are doing our best. Sometimes our best is leaving the laundry unfolded and running around with the kids in the yard, or sitting to play Candy Land. As it relates to eating healthy, sometimes our best is frozen veggie patties, steamed broccoli, and sweet potatoes fries. It is possible to give our children a more balanced meal directly from your freezer. To be real, that is usually is my choice every night the husband is on shift. He calls it “scrounging”. So be it. I am doing my best. Figure out what works for you, mom, and do your best to keep your kids eating healthy, nutritious food, AND play with them. Time will fly by and soon they will be in college.

And then, eating healthy 100% of the time will be easy. (but will I really want to?)
